A First Look at Grok and the Latest Innovations in Artificial Intelligence and Logistics

Welcome to this week's edition of AI for 30! This edition dives into Grok, Elon Musk's latest venture into AI through Twitter/X. • Quote of the Week

Let’s dig in!

Exploring Grok: Elons Chatbot on Twitter / X

X/Twitter users who spring for a Premium or Premium+ account for $11-$22 a month can access the xAI chatbot, Grok.

After paying $11 a month to try Grok, here are my thoughts:

  • Grok has a personality unlike the other chatbots out there. In Musk’s words, it is modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

  • You can switch between regular and “fun” mode if you need to tamp down the fun.

  • It doesn’t outperform the other chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude - at least not yet. However, according to the xAI website, the new Grok 1.5 outperforms ChatGPT in a few areas. TBD since it’s waitlist only, and I don’t have access.

  • Grok excels at accessing real-time X/Twitter data. This isn’t always accurate, but it has great potential, given all the data fed to the model from X users.

Final thoughts: Better chatbots are available for free or at a similar monthly cost. Jumping for Grok access for $11-$22 per month isn’t worth it compared to all the other superior chatbots on the market.
