Chat GPT-4: Dall E-3, Plugins, and the NEW GPTs..

The grandaddy of them all, Chat GPT

This month we’re digging into Chat GPT-4: Dall E-3, Plugins, and the NEW GPTs..

A Brief History of Chatbots and Generative AI: By GPT-4

  • 1960s: The first chatbot, ELIZA, was created by Joseph Weizenbaum, which could mimic conversation by matching user prompts to scripted responses.

  • 1970s: PARRY, another early chatbot that simulated a person with paranoid schizophrenia, was developed by psychiatrist Kenneth Colby

  • 1980s-2000s: Various chatbots and virtual assistants were developed, including ALICE (A.L.I.C.E.) in 1995, which used heuristic pattern matching.

  • 2006: IBM's Watson showed the potential of AI in understanding natural language by winning Jeopardy! against human champions.

  • 2010s: Machine learning, particularly deep learning, began to significantly improve the capabilities of chatbots. Key developments include sequence-to-sequence models, RNNs (Recurrent Neural Networks), and LSTMs (Long Short-Term Memory Networks).

  • June 2018: OpenAI introduced GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), a significant leap forward in language understanding and generation.

  • February 2019: GPT-2 was released, with a much larger dataset and 1.5 billion parameters, demonstrating the ability to generate coherent and contextually relevant text over longer passages.

  • June 2020: GPT-3 was introduced with an astonishing 175 billion parameters, making it one of the most powerful language models. It showed remarkable performance in generating text that could often be indistinguishable from that written by humans

  • 2021-2022: GPT-3 and its variants, including fine-tuned versions like ChatGPT (trained specifically to converse and assist in a wide range of tasks), began widely used in various applications, from writing assistance to customer service chatbots.

If you haven’t interacted with Chat GPT yet, or don’t have much experience, head over to https://chat.openai.com/ and sign up for the paid version of GPT-4. As of today, it is $20 per month. This version allows you to access the plugin market to supercharge the capabilities. A plugin store is similar to an app store, so you can easily download and use the plugins. The plugins improve Chat GPT's capability and enhance the overall experience.

Before discussing the plugins, I must mention that DALL E-3 is now connected to Chat GPT-4 so that you can prompt images on the chat screen. After spending time in Midjourney last month, where you can only prompt images in Midjourney through Discord, this is much easier…. Is it better? TBD

3 Plugins everyone should add on GPT-4

1. edX - Search and sign up for 4000+ courses from 250+ institutions. I enrolled in the free 10-week sustainable supply chain management course at MIT.

2. Wolfram - is like a super-intelligent calculator that can answer questions about numbers, facts, and weather.

  • For example, when should a parcel be converted to LTL, LTL to TL, or LTL to multi-stop TL? The output from Wolfram generates a few equations.

3. BrowserOp - is like a digital assistant that can search the web for you, grab the news, check out websites, etc.

Big news from OpenAI this week…they're rolling out this cool new feature where you can make your versions of ChatGPT, which they're calling GPTs. It's fantastic because you can set them up to do all sorts of things, like help you evaluate your procurement strategy, test your business cases, or handle random day-to-day stuff. And don't worry, no coding is needed.

Plus, a GPT Store is coming soon. It's like an app store where everyone can show off the GPTs they've made and even make some cash if their creations get popular. So, if you've got some cool ideas, you could get paid when people use your GPT. Keep an eye out for it!

Next week we will dive further into prompt engineering and more plugins on GPT-4.

Catch you next week!
