4 of 4 Bard series, pulling ChatGPT back into the mix

4 weeks with Bard

Welcome back!

This is the 4th week of my four-part series using Google Bard. After a solid month of using Bard and exploring its application in logistics and supply chain, I’m excited to close out strong and move on to a new tool.

This week’s agenda:

  • Using Bard for new employee onboarding, or should we use Bard? (your master class to start fast)

  • Jump back into ChatGPT to create your GPTs.

  • AI newsworthy stories over the past week.

If you're new here, to give you a heads up, I spend time every month exploring a new AI tool and write about it every week. My goal is to inspire you to make the most of these digital tools or at least have a basic understanding of them so that you can use them when the time comes.

Let’s take a look at new employee onboarding.

Thinking back to my first few months at C.H. Robinson in 2013, training was trial by fire. I was drinking from a firehose and learning on the run. It could have been so much better. The best place to start would have been to have had a crash course on different transportation modes, pros vs cons, and an overview of what shippers and carriers deal with daily.

That’s what I will create here—training for new brokers and logistics buyers on the shipper side. Let’s map out the most essential items before instructing Bard on what we’d like it to generate.

Learnings:

  • Different kinds of transportation modes and their respective pros and cons.

  • Industry key terms and acronyms to understand.

  • Risk management, avoiding potential disasters.

After putting some prompts into Bard, I realized that my custom ChatGPT, GPT “Professor X,” is much better at this. I’ll show the same prompts on both platforms, and you can decide which you prefer.

1.) Bard prompt and output.

“I am a transportation brokerage dealing in all modes of transportation. I need your help creating new employee boarding. The first lesson you will teach is on all the transportation modes and their pros and cons.”

The response below is from Bard, and it’s corny, in my opinion. Check out the same prompt in my custom GPT, Professor X.

2.) ChatGPT - GPT “Professor X” output.

Using the same prompt provides a more precise and to-the-point output minus the corn.

Now, we can look at industry keywords and acronyms in both Bard and ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is my preferred choice for educating new employees on onboarding, especially when creating custom GPTs, which I will demonstrate.

Create your own ChatGPT

I created Professor X, who is an expert in logistics and supply chain. Here’s how you can create your own.

Create your own with the instructions here:

  • Login to chat.openai.com to access your account.

  • Go to the “explore” option in the sidebar on the top left of the screen.

  • Click “Create a GPT” and fill in the message box on the Create page.

  • Work with the GPT builder to refine prompts until you achieve desired results.

  • Using the “configure” button, you can name it, add a description, and give it instructions. You can also upload files.

  • Save the GPT, and you can share it with others if you’d like.
